| July 4th Every July 4th, my heart grows heavy. While America celebrates it's independence, I'm always reminded of my dear friend William who passed away on July 4th, 1997. Please refer to my prior blog post http://http://hubertdkim.xanga.com/602125222/bittersweet-july-4th/. William's memory is still clear in my mind, and his life will always serve as an example to me.
On another note, I've just started my last year in residency. In surgery residency, the last year is referred as the "chief year" because you are the highest level resident on each service. With each year of training, surgery has become more enjoyable. I am exposed to more challenging and difficult operations, and now help younger residents through the more basic operations. I am currently working at the VA Hospital located in Long Beach. It's kind of sad caring for our veterans. Many have sacrificed much for our country, but now, are left without families, with mental health problems, and without much of a support system.
Anyways, I have to go.... I'm going to try to revive this blog... this blog needs some serious CPR.

| I hate sealsI went up to Berkeley this past weekend. It was a good time, hanging out with my old friends and eating Berkeley food.
This is a crab net. You put your crab bait in the middle of the net and then you fling it over the side of the pier. I'm trying to throw it really far in this picture.....
Then you wait 15 minutes and hope for crabs to go after the food.
We didn't catch anything that day.... It turns out that there were seals in the water and they were eating our bait. So... we ended up seal feeding... not crab fishing.

| Sorry xanga.....I've been neglecting my blog ever since I started residency again. But now.... I want to get back into the habit of updating my blog. Christmas is right around the corner. There is this one house on our street that goes way.... way.... way.... overboard with the Christmas lights. This house is really 'over the top'. In addition to the lights and figurines... he puts this cotton stuff on his roof to look like snow and this Santa Claus who is 'skiing' down his roof. The front yard is crowded with these lighted elves, reindeers.... and they move too! He filled up all the space in his yard, so he even has little animal figures in the patch of grass in front of the sidewalk area. I remember watching a commercial of some movie many years ago "Christmas with the Cranks".... I don't know what this movie is about, nor do I want to watch it, but this guys house reminds me of that commercial I saw. It's sad because the houses just to the left and right of this house are doing their best just to keep up. They put up the standard lights.... | | |
| Being a surgeon.......... is such a great responsibility. ..... is very humbling. ..... is challenging. ..... is a unique job. ..... is a privilege.
but it also..... ..... stressful. ..... time-consuming. ..... a sacrifice. ..... overwhelming at times.
...to be continued...
